Brief description
The Digital Life Skills (DLS) project emerges as a critical initiative to equip youth workers, educators, and young individuals with the competencies to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. Focused on enhancing digital readiness, resilience, and capacity, DLS addresses the urgent need for holistic digital citizenship and cyber safety education. By synthesizing existing resources with innovative methodologies, this project aims to create inclusive online environments, foster constructive digital dialogue, and enhance the employability of young people through improved digital footprints and ethical online engagement.
Target groups
Youth Workers and Educators: Professionals seeking effective strategies to guide young individuals in digital spaces.
Young Individuals: Especially those from underserved communities, including NEETs and those at risk of social exclusion, who will benefit from enhanced digital life skills.
Objectives
- Enhance Digital Citizenship and Safety: Developing a comprehensive curriculum that bridges life skills with essential digital competencies.
- Create Inclusive and Safe Online Spaces: Building awareness around the importance of ethical online engagement and the impact of digital footprints on personal and professional life.
- Empower Youth Workers: Offering tools and methodologies for youth workers to effectively mentor young individuals in digital proficiency and safety.
- Foster Constructive Digital Engagement: Encouraging young individuals to participate in online communities positively and responsibly.
Project structure
WP2 - Community, Guidelines & Infographics
Raising the awareness of youth workers(YW) and educators regarding behavioural patterns in interaction with technology, and the better understanding of their own psychological and neurological reactions to the architecture of the digital world, that youth are immersed in and support inclusive environments and attitudes.
SO1. Creating one inclusive online space for youth and implementing the strategy to build a community of young people in Discord that are interested to learn new skills for employment and employability, as well as develop their awareness of Digital Intelligence skills in Inclusion and Citizenship.
SO2. Creating a database of resources that are currently used for teaching young people Digital Life Skills, Digital Citizenship and Cyber Safety, and analysis of what are the most relevant of those in terms of real impact on the young people, adoption in youth work/ classes/ education/non-formal education/ youth workers’ education.
WP3 - Methodology for DLS and CS
Creating and innovating based on the existing materials, together with specialists from different domains, holistic digital citizenship (prevention, preparation and proactivity) and cyber safety methodology, as well as linking this topic to employability.
SO1. Raising awareness of the youth workers regarding behavioural patterns in interaction with technology, by better understanding their own psychological and neurological reactions to the architecture of the digital world, youth are immersed in. Supporting key actors of non-formal education with methods and techniques for better approaching these problems with youth in their education process.
SO2. Creating together with expert partners from different domains, holistic digital citizenship (prevention, preparation and proactivity) course (content and methodology). These would help youth be more prepared for the future of technology from the mental, physical and emotional perspective in order to make the most of their resources, to increase their employability and their quality of life.
SO3. Teaching youth to better handle the increasing amount of information and online content by developing critical thinking and discernment through a modular DLS course designed to be adapted to intensive training courses. These important digital thinking skills aim to provide a wider control on how the internet shapes their inner world (self-image, emotions, beliefs, biases).
WP4 - Online Tutorials and Social Media Campaigns
Developing the online social consciousness by putting in perspective youth`s online participation (video/ text content, comments, shares, online blueprint) and shaping important values for responsible and inclusive digital citizens that offer youth the leadership in raising awareness on the healthy usage of the online channels.
SO1. Develop the DLS competencies of youth and youth workers in using the digital spaces and becoming more active Digital Citizens through online tutorials that are created in the course of the project and promoted online.
SO2. Increase the engagement of young people in learning DLS, outside the partners’ networks through social media learning content on Instagram and TikTok, that is promoted by the youth leaders in the Discord Community.
